Disc Of The Day: Fran Smith Jr. - Man Meets Machine

Fran is bass player for The Hooters so it
really should be no surprise that there's that certain South
Jersey/Philly element to the tunes. But more exactly this is
closer in sound to something Glen Burtnick, Will
Owsley or Danny Wilde would dream
up. Hell, you could even throw some Cheap Trick,
Jellyfish and Beatles sounds in
there too. And what you're left with is an absolutely amazing
and infectious arnea pop record that has had me spinning it
over and over since I got it a few weeks back. It is
impossible to be in a bad mood listening to songs like Rudy,
Uniforms or Love And Exploration. In fact, every
song on here is like a lesson in how to create upbeat pop
music without condescending to the LCD crowd. Just simply
fantastic...
